Ruben Amorim believes he will learn more about his Manchester United side in their Premier League fixture against Southampton.

United drew away with Liverpool and Arsenal in their last two matches, beating the latter on a penalty shootout to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Amorim signalled his approval for both results by heading straight down the tunnel. The United head coach wants the players and staff to take the acclaim from the supporters after a positive result but Amorim will front up to the matchgoers after a negative result.

Southampton are at the foot of the Premier League with only one win and six points. The club sacked former manager Russell Martin last month and could finish with the worst-ever points tally in the competition's 33-year history.

"I think this next game will teach me more from my players than the last two," Amorim said. "So I’m really focused to see what kind of game we will play tomorrow. We will learn more tomorrow.

"There is no expectation for us in the last two games. No one believed we could do a great performance but now they are expecting us to win and play well. So I will learn more in this game.

"I’m always concerned because we didn’t have during these [past] games the consistency in performance, in results, so always worried. It’s my job to be worried.

"But we have to face Southampton in the same way we faced Liverpool and Arsenal, that is the goal. Not more, not less, face that game.

"But understanding that there are different games and people expect us to win. That changes things, when you have the pressure to win that is the pressure we want.

"Sometimes it’s harder to cope with that pressure because against Arsenal and Liverpool, nobody was expecting us to beat those teams. But now it is different. We have to be prepared for that pressure, we need that pressure to improve as a team and we need to face the game in the right way."

Amorim insisted he did not feel a weight of expectation at United amid a title drought that is certain to pass 12 years in May. United could still have a successful season, with the FA Cup and the Europa League to play for.

"Of course, you feel the pressure of the club but in this moment I don’t feel that pressure because in the last years we didn’t win the league," he stressed. "If you follow this club in the past, if you don’t win the league one year you must win the next year. I don’t feel that pressure.

"We have to bring that pressure to us because outside the fans are amazing. I don’t read what you write guys, I just feel that pressure in the future, we need to win titles and we need to win games in this moment."

Amorim gave yet another query about Marcus Rashford's future short shrift: "I just want to win tomorrow. My focus is to win tomorrow. I will choose the players I think are best to win tomorrow."
