Ruben Amorim gives three-word update after Liverpool target jets in for talks

Ruben Amorim

Ruben Amorim has refused to give anything away from his trip to London on Monday afternoon amid links to the Premier League. The Sporting CP boss has been tipped to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool but those reports have gone quiet recently.

Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso had been the bookmakers' favourite to become the new boss at Anfield but he committed his future to the Bundesliga champions. Amorim emerged as the next favourite to take over after impressing in Portugal.

The Reds are expected to take time in the selection process to replace Klopp with the club remaining in the Premier League title race with Manchester City and Arsenal.

On Monday, The Athletic reported that Amorim had held talks with West Ham United about succeeding David Moyes at the London Stadium. The former Everton manager is expected to leave the Hammers at the end of his contract in the summer meaning there will be a new head coach in the south Londoners' dug-out for the first time since 2019.

Later in the day, Amorim was spotted arriving in London with his agent Raul Costa for, as CNN Portugal claimed, further discussions with West Ham. It's claimed that the 39-year-old flew to England in a private jet owned by the Hammers.

After spending six hours in the capital, Amorim was met by a flock of reporters in the early hours of Tuesday in Lisbon. Smiling as he walked towards a private vehicle, he avoided answering questions and replied: "See you Saturday."

Amorim is set to meet the Portuguese media on Saturday ahead of their clash with FC Porto.
