Ruben Amorim handed clear Viktor Gyokeres to Man United transfer instruction as verdict delivered
Ruben Amorim has been told that signing Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres will take Manchester United no closer to winning the Premier League title, with former Premier League striker Troy Deeney labelling him 'not a natural finisher'.
United are one of the clubs linked with an interest in the Sweden international, following the arrival of his former manager Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford. The Portuguese head coach is said to have a gentleman’s agreement with his former club not to take any of their players in January.
That has however not stopped the striker being linked with a summer move. Gyokeres has caught the eye with his goalscoring record for both club and country so far this season.

In 29 games in all competitions, he has scored 34 goals for both Sporting and Sweden. Three of those goals came in a 4-1 Champions League win over Man City last month.
Despite his goalscoring record, Deeney still has reservations over the striker. He doesn’t believe that he will be the missing piece for either United or Arsenal.
"You know when you say something the clip is going to come back in six months? I genuinely think he's a good footballer, he works really hard, all of that. But I don't think he's a natural finisher." Deeney told talkSPORT’s website.
"And again, everyone is going to pull up his goal record, I get that. But I don't think he takes either of those two [Manchester United or Arsenal] to winning the Premier League. That's just my opinion, and if he did, they'd have already bought him."
Some reports suggest that Gyokeres could be availabe for a fee of around £60 million in the summer transfer window, despite having a release clause of £83 million in his contract. He joined Sporting from Championship side Coventry City in 2023.
