Ruben Amorim hints at Liverpool change as Man Utd could take Jamie Carragher advice
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has hinted that he will change his approach to take on Liverpool at Anfield this weekend, with the Premier League table showing a 23-point gap between the teams.
Amorim has usually played with a back three throughout his career but has been urged in some quarters to switch things up amid a torrid run of results. Manchester United has lost six of its last eight games in all competitions, though it did win the Manchester derby.
"We play most of the games with three," Amorim said during today's press conference. "Sometimes, Bruno [Fernandes] was in a different position, the midfield. I know people look for the three defenders but I don't see the game like that. We will adapt for every opponent. We need time."

Liverpool could only draw 0-0 in this fixture last season despite having 34 shots against Manchester United. "I don't remember the game but we need to be prepared," Arne Slot said when he was asked about that earlier today. "Every game is a difficult one in the Premier League. It is more important for them to win at Anfield, we have to be really well prepared."
Jamie Carragher, writing in his Daily Telegraph column, offered one solution for Amorim. "There are already calls for him to change his formation, but he cannot be expected to shift his philosophy after 11 games," the Liverpool legend wrote. "If Amorim switched to four at the back in response to United’s results it would undermine his reason for being there.
"If there is a common theme between the troubles of Tottenham and United it is how both are so vulnerable without the ball. You can still make changes within a formation or playing philosophy based on the players at your disposal. Could Amorim go to Anfield this weekend and play three central midfielders instead of two, for example?
"It would be a compromise taking into account the strength of the opposition, not a big change of direction. There is no right or wrong way to play the game, but every manager must be prepared to make tweaks at certain times"
Marcus Rashford, Amorim said, is ill at the moment and so he isn't training. The forward, who has been dropped from the Manchester United squad recently, is not going to play a part against Liverpool and is expected to be sold.
"I am just focused on the performance," Amorim said when asked about Manchester United's poor recent record at Anfield. "I am not focused on losing and what could happen. We know what we are going to face. My focus is to prepare the team. I want to improve [on the first 15 minutes vs Newcastle]. Our focus is not thinking about any bad result."
Liverpool.com says: Manchester United has been playing so badly that it is hard to see Amorim getting a result at Anfield. In games like these, though, you just never know. If Liverpool plays well, it should win — but that was the case three times last season and Jurgen Klopp's men didn't win once.
