Alejandro Garnacho is out of favour under his new head coach at Manchester United, with Ruben Amorim's new system leaving little room for the young forward - but some United supporters in The Manchester Evening News comments section say that giving up on Garnacho in the January transfer window would be a huge error.

Both Chelsea and Serie A outfit Napoli are interested in a deal for Garnacho, who arrived at United in 2020 for a small sum and has since made 118 appearances for the senior team. His sale would represent "pure profit" for the club, which could in turn be reinvested into players who would better suit Amorim - but with over a third of the January transfer window gone, there would be precious little time to sort a good deal.

Garnacho excited fans during lean times, in previous seasons, winning the Puskas Award last year for a stunning bicycle kick, while he played in nearly every game during the 2023/2024 season. United now have to make the decision on whether to wait for Garnacho to adapt to a coach who is adamant on making his system work, or face seeing a young talent leave and thrive elsewhere - potentially even at a Premier League rival.

Reader Garth123 says it is worth waiting: "Garnacho should have been given until end of this season before any decision was made. The fact that apart from the Brighton debacle, he contributed with 2 assists in his previous 2 games and is young enough to accept a new challenge for coaching for a new position.

"The main reason, in my view, that he will be sold by United is that none of the players Amorim regards as surplus to requirements are wanted by other clubs. We all know who those are sitting on nice lucrative contracts given by the previous regime and most well past their sell-by dates.

"If Garnacho is sold, which is looking most likely now, then the funds need to be invested immediately into good players or better still the players brought in before, as its getting late in the transfer window now. Failure to do that will result in many disgruntled fans. Ineos need to remember that many fans in particular the younger end go to the game to watch Garnacho as he's a fans favourite. Much of the shirt sales to the younger end bear his name."

Pebbles7 agrees: "Can a young player like Alejandro Garnacho not be coached? Gareth Bale started life as a left-back but was coached into a top level forward. Cristiano Ronaldo himself started life as a winger, but he evolved into, arguably, the best striker in the world. It's nonsense to suggest Garnacho can only play in one position.

"Last season, [Erik] Ten Hag would only play him off the left-hand side until the Villa game on Boxing Day when injuries forced him to play him on the right. The result was, hey presto, he can play off the right, too. He's a very talented, young player and the club shouldn't be looking to let him go."

StephenTaylor123 says: "The fact is the lad is a bit rough and raw around the edges, but I do see ability there. I think this season he seems to have lost a bit of confidence in his game."

Steviweavi would, though, support a sale: "I feel that Garnacho has gone backwards over the last 12 months. He's become predictable, misses easy chances and all too frequently makes the wrong choice in the final third. If selling him, for the right fee, enables us to bring in a decent LWB and CF, I say go for it."

Redtrini writes: "How he can get in the team? Adapt his game to the system. Simple. That's what Amorim and his coaches are trying to do. It's up to the player to respond."

Tonyunited says: "He has all the talent but, if someone comes in with a ridiculous offer, cash-in."
