Ruben Amorim has encouraged his players to be brave at Anfield and insisted his side can come away with all three points if they perform better than in recent weeks.

Manchester United has lost the last four matches in all competitions, including three without a goal in the Premier League.

The Red Devils were easily brushed aside at home by Newcastle United on Monday and head to Liverpool knowing it could be a tough afternoon against one of the most in-form sides in Europe, with several players excelling of late.

While leaders such as Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah will be on show for Arne Slot’s side, the away manager said his players have been ‘nervous and anxious’ in recent weeks. Speaking to BBC pre-match, Amorim said: "We need the leaders to step up to help the other guys and I'm the most responsible person here to improve the performances."

He followed up those comments to Sky Sports, insisting he is still building a strong team at Anfield. “When you play a game of football, anything is possible. We have to perform better than last week, that is our goal," he said.

“We have to focus on the little things, the basic things to start the game in a different way to help us to play the game, to be in the game for more time than we are used to in the last games. We need to build a team, to be a team. For that, we need to recover really fast to go forward really fast.

“We spoke about that last game; the players were nervous and anxious. We know that it’s a difficult moment but we need to be brave and play football, simple as that.

“Remember that this is the fun part of our week. I know it’s a difficult moment but let’s face it as another game and to improve from the last game.”

Following the 2-2 draw between Fulham and Ipswich Town just prior to the match at Anfield, it meant United went into the game just six points ahead of the relegation zone, with Amorim claiming earlier week that the threat of dropping into the Championship is a ‘possibility’.

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford was missing again due to illness, a fact that Amorim had confirmed in Friday’s pre-match press conference. The forward hasn’t played in the Red Devils’ last six games.
