Ruben Selles feels Hull City's 1-0 win at Millwall is the perfect start to a crucial three-game week, with games against QPR and Sheffield United to come.

Jake Cooper's own goal in the second half proved crucial as City notched a second successive 1-0 away success, backing up the victory at Blackburn Rovers in the final outing of 2024.

City battled hard at The Den and, in truth, could have won with a little more to spare with Abu Kamara and Regan Slater going close.

"I think coming here and getting the three points and getting the result is always difficult, but I think the result is good, the performance was good, and we are happy," Selles told Hull Live.

"We discussed some weeks ago that every time we concede, it comes after we scored the first one, and then we concede another one. We are learning how to manage those moments and the best way to manage those moments is just to try to score the second one and keep doing the things that we know how to.

"Obviously, the opponent, at some point, especially being a specialist in the set pieces like today, is going to put some pressure on us, and you need to go through it, but you need to show your intention."

After winning at Ewood Park in their last away outing just before the turn of the year, City have now backed up that 1-0 win with another 1-0 win, so crucial in easing away from trouble.

"Yes, it is (getting back-to-back clean sheets and away wins)," he continued. "Doing it in the way that we want to do it. Building some things like controlling the game, playing with intensity, being aggressive, and trying to keep the line high and far away from our goal, we are going in the right direction.

"I think it is (perfect way to start the week). We cannot ask for more today, and now it's important that we have some rest and then we go again on Monday. We will prepare for the game, and then we are ready to go at home with our fans against a very good team (QPR) on Tuesday."

The Tigers boss was also full of praise for the 1,629 away supporters who backed their side in the early kick-off, many of whom left East Yorkshire early in the morning and celebrated the success with Selles and his players.

"The feeling with them and the atmosphere that they created for us was amazing today in a place like this, one where you can feel the football environment. From the very beginning, they have been with us, supporting us home and away, and today, I hope they enjoyed it because the support was massive, and we always feel when they are there."
