Ruben Selles says Hull City are closing in on another couple of signings which he hopes will be completed before the trek to the capital next weekend to face Millwall when the Championship resumes.

City have so far signed Matt Crooks from Real Salt Lake in the MLS with the former Middlesbrough favourite signed up to a two-and-a-half-year deal, after the Tigers agreed an undisclosed fee.

The Tigers are hopeful of making big progress on a Championship winger this weekend, while they continue to work on deals for Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt and Watford defender Ryan Porteous.

City remain firmly in the hunt for Aston Villa starlet Louie Barry, but the Premier League club have not made a decision on where he will spend the remainder of the season, nor has the player settled on which Championship club he will move to.

Selles is also trying to bring in more defensive cover on the left side of his defence with interest remaining strong in Ryan Giles. There will be further departures with Chris Bedia and Anthony Racioppi among the players who could join Marvin Mehlem and Will Jarvis in leaving the MKM Stadium this month, while Hearts retain firm interest in Ryan Longman.

"There are not going to be a couple in before the weekend," Selles told Hull Live. "That's the latest. We expect to have one in with us, but, he's not going it's to be available for selection."

Naturally, and out of respect for players at other clubs, Selles wouldn't be drawn on talking about specific players when quizzed about the likes of Gelhardt.

"We are trying to strengthen the team as much as we can, as we say, with offensive players," he said. "I think we are close to a couple of players to join us, and I expect that to happen in the next two to three days, and that's as much as I can say.

"I don't like to speak about the players that are playing for other teams. If you read the gossip or the media, you will see that like 15 targets that have been there, so if I need to comment on every one of them, it will be difficult. I don't like to comment on players that are not here. When we know that they are coming, I'm more than happy to speak about them."

As Hull Live reported earlier this week, Brighton and Hove Albion loan goalkeeper Carl Rushworth is back fit and available for selection for this weekend's FA Cup game with Doncaster Rovers.

"I know Jared (Dublin) is just keeping the line of conversation open (with Brighton)," Selles said. "In all those matters, I leave them to Jared. My request for Carl was to see the player training and playing for us. For the moment, he has been training and doing well so let's see if he will play on the weekend and if we need to make any decision, because until now, he's our player and then we will evaluate in the next coming weeks."
