Hull City head coach Ruben Selles has urged the club's supporters to continue backing his new-look team in his first Christmas message as boss.

Selles masterminded an impressive performance to end City's long wait for a victory on Saturday, with goals from Joao Pedro and Mason Burstow bringing an end to a winless run which ended at the 14th time of asking by beating Swansea City on Saturday.

In a double-Christmas present for City, the three points moved the Tigers off the bottom of the Championship and with other results going their way, out of the relegation zone completely.

The Spaniard will spend Christmas Day alone in his hotel room, preparing his masterplan to secure victory at Preston North End on Boxing Day, and he says that's absolutely fine, with his family due over from his native Spain later in the festive period, though he admits to being a tad unsure about what his plans are for lunch, while much of the Tigers fanbase will be tucking into their festive turkey and copious amounts of pigs in blankets.

"Merry Christmas," Selles said when Hull Live asked him to send his message to the Tigers fans. "That will be the first one, and then the second thing is to keep supporting this group of players, keep supporting this team because things happen in football, but there's an honest group of players that want to do things, that will fight and play for the club. We will give every inch that's inside ourselves just to be successful with this football club."

The Spaniard admits he will spend Christmas alone for the time being, with his family currently back in Spain, and though there will have been 20,000 or so invitations for him to come and enjoy the big festive lunch, he admits to being happy to spend it by himself preparing for the trip to Deepdale, looking for a second successive success.

"I don't know what I'm going to eat (for lunch), so I will need to figure it out," he joked. "On Christmas Day, I'm completely alone and I don't like it when somebody invites me. I'm thankful for all the invitations, but I don't want to go into somebody's family or environment; I'm very strict about that. My family is in Spain; they will enjoy the time with our relatives. I would prefer it if my family were here; however, they will come later in the Christmas period. This is what it is, that's our life. It's not the first time or the second time I do it, so it's not going to be a problem. I will prepare for the next games that day.
