Rugby: Greenock's girl power on show as U14 squad win two out of two in Oban
GREENOCK Wanderers' under-14 girls enjoyed a successful visit to a tournament in Oban as part of a busy weekend for the youth and ladies' squads.
The girls returned home with a 100 per cent record and without conceding a point after defeating Waysiders 17-0 and seeing off the host club 14-0.
Elsewhere at the weekend, the under-14 boys lost narrowly to their GHA counterparts, going down 47-45.
The under-15 boys lost 69-17 to a very well drilled GHK side, though two debutants, Jacob and Finn, acquitted themselves very well and there were plenty of positives to work on ahead of their next match against Strathendrick.
The under-16 boys' match at Carrick was called off late on Saturday evening - very disappointing for coach Bryan Reddy and the players as they had got together a very strong side eager to show off their extra training they put in over the holidays.
Under-17 Wanderers player Freddie McFeate is having an excellent season training at Glasgow Warriors.
Meanwhile, the club's two ladies' squads had a training session at Fort Matilda on Sunday before they get back in the groove with Cup and Shield fixtures in the coming weeks.
The four 20-minute sessions proved very useful for regular and aspiring senior players in a good run-out against a very good club who ran out winners narrowly by eight tries to six.
