Rugby legend Martin Offiah's son has signed for Tottenham Hotspur.

Phoenix Offiah put pen to paper on a deadline day deal with Spurs, and adds to a rich vein of sporting talent in his family. His father won 20 major honours during his time in rugby league, scoring over 500 tries at club and international level.

A centre forward, 15-year-old Phoenix was previously on the books at Crystal Palace, Brentford and Queens Park Rangers, but he now joins up with an elite Premier League team.

Writing on Facebook, dad Martin said: "Another proud day in the Offiah household as Phoenix signs for Spurs seven months after his older brother Tyler signed for Bath. The hard work starts now my boy. #love"

Speaking to TEAMtalk, Martin explained how Phoenix made the switch from rugby to football.

"It’s been a long road for Phoenix to get this far. He played rugby union at Ealing Trailfinders, like his brother, up until the age of eight and scored a really good try at Twickenham," explained Martin.

"After that, he said ‘Dad, I want to play football’ but he was just as good at rugby as Tyler. It wasn’t for him, though, and I said ‘It’s your life, I’ll support you on your journey’. So when he was about 10 he got scouted by Queens Park Rangers and Fulham.

"He chose QPR because it was closer to home and spent two years in their development system. When QPR told Phoenix that he wasn’t the finished article, he was very distraught and went away to work hard on his skills."

Phoenix's brother Tyler joined up with Bath Rugby last summer, and got his first try for the club against Bristol Bears in November. He had reportedly also received interest from Gloucester, Sal Sharks and Leicester Tigers.

There are more footballers in the family too, with Martin's nephew Odel, who is 22, contracted to Brighton and Hove Albion, but he's currently on loan with League One club Blackpool.

Martin was a rugby league legend with Wigan and Great Britain and also played rugby union for London Wasps.
