Rugby round-up from the Championship to the grassroots leagues
Hartpury’s Championship game at Ampthill on Saturday had to be abandoned after referee Alex Thomas was hit by a clearing kick during the first half.
He appeared to be knocked out when he was struck by the clearance from Hartpury fly-half Harry Bazalgette, with the visitors leading 14-0 at the time.
Thomas was treated on the field before being taken off on a stretcher.

The game was called off a few minutes later.
“We appreciate that the decision is disappointing for supporters who have travelled to the game but our priority is for health of the players and match officials,” Ampthill said in a statement.
“Our thoughts are with Alex for a swift recovery.”
Hartpury, who began the match fifth in the table, two places above Ampthill, had taken the lead with an Ethan Hunt try.
Aristot Benz-Salomon added a second shortly before the incident which ended the game after 28 minutes.
Cinderford make it five National League 2 West home wins on the bounce as they completed a 37-17 victory over Exeter University in a nine-try thriller.
Cinderford took the lead after 11 minutes with George Evans powering over but the visitors drew level four minutes later, as hooker Robert Gaffan was left untouched to pick and go over the Cinderford line from close range.
Tries from Sam Smith and Will Baldwin gave the Foresters a 12-point lead at the break, and they carried on their form into the second half.
Three minutes into the second period, Harry Edwards drove himself over the line after a strong maul hit the floor, and despite Exeter’s second score three minutes later through Harrison Hall, Cinderford added two more tries before the final whistle.
Another try for Evans and a wonderfully created second for Smith gave the hosts complete control with 20 minutes remaining.
However, Exeter added their third before game’s end as a clever cross field kick was collected in the corner by Josh Golden-Clarke.
With the clock red, Harry Johnson slotted home a simple penalty to wrap up a solid performance.
Matson were 30-14 Regional 1 South West winners over Marlborough at Redwell Road as they kicked three penalties during a very hectic opening 30 minutes and the visitors replied with a converted try.
Matson ended the first half with Jake King scoring from a driving maul, converted by Connor Gwilliam for a 16-7 lead.
The second half started with both sides playing some super rugby and Ryan Woodhouse scored a try for Matson which Gwilliam converted.
Jack Knight scored from another rolling maul for Gwilliam to convert before Marlborough replied in the 80th minute with a converted try.
Lydney led early on at St Austell through a Jake Hanley penalty, but went down 14-3 as the Cornish side scored two converted tries.
Cai Rogers led the way with a hat-trick as 10-try Drybrook brushed Old Centralians aside with a 66-12 Regional 2 Severn win.
Mikey Addis scored the first try before Rogers got his first, then Dean Jelf, Bailey Watts and Casey Morgan went over.
Mitch Bourne crossed twice before a double for Rogers completed his treble and Matthew Tinker got the final try with Haydn Lewis booting eight conversions.
Jevan Brown and Ben Turk scored tries for Cents with Harry Preece kicking a conversion.
Stow-on-the-Wold were 27-17 winners at Witney, Cam Tyler with two tries, while Will Marks and Harry Gaden also crossed.
Dave O’Sulivan kicked a conversion and a penalty, with Ollie Clements adding a conversion.
Longlevens went down 37-26 to league leaders Chippenham, who were 10-0 up within 10 minutes before Mike Yorke went over, Butler converting.
Chippenham responded with a converted score, but ill-discipline allowed the Griffins to keep the scoreboard ticking over with three Butler penalties meaning the score at half-time was17-16.
Chippenham added a penalty and a try wide out to bring the score to 25-16 before a try from Butler reduced the deficit to 25-21.
Chippenham responded by scoring out wide again to widen the gap to 30-21, only for Yorke to score a second try to make it a four-point game.
But any hopes of snatching the win ended as Chippenham grabbed a match-clinching converted try.
Newent made it 11 Regional 2 Midlands West wins from 11 games as they won 39-10 at Whitchurch.
Newent’s backs, orchestrated by Tom Webb from fly half, scored six tries, skipper Ben Vincent adding the seventh.
Kyle Towers got the first, with Webb’s conversion attempt wide, before Whitchurch got on the board with a penalty.
Jim Hartland and Dylan Leney were yellow carded but Newent made light of being reduced to 13 men, as Vincent made the score 10-3.
A multi-phased attack ended with Towers crossing for his second try before a foot in touch denied him a hat-trick.
Nathan Brooks got the next try, to take the score to 20-3 before Jack Devries earned Newent’s third yellow card of the game.
In his absence, the opening minutes of the second half were uncomfortable for Newent but they held out and, back to 15, scored again through Adrian Connelly to extend their lead to 25-3.
Whitchurch responded with a converted try but Newent scored two late converted tries from Will Hartland and Connelly, Doug Long converting both.
Cheltenham’s away game at Stratford was abandoned due to an injury to Cheltenham player Tom Cowan.
He was rendered unconscious following a tackle in the 64th minute, and paramedics were called to give medical assistance to the injured player, who could not be moved from the pitch.
To compound matters, Cheltenham had already lost Jonty Culliford to a broken ankle five minutes before.
Despite tries by Tom Anson, James Frith and Curtis Neal, the latter kicking a conversion, Cheltenham were trailing 29-17.
However, the Cheltenham pack were growing in stature and with two tries being disallowed for being held up, the last 16 minutes was going to be interesting, but it was not to be.
Cinderford United held off a late Burnham-on-Sea recovery to record a much-needed 31-29 victory in Counties 1 Western North.
Lewis Mason, Dan Nicholls, Hugo Murray, James Kear and Sam Allford scored their tries, with Reece Boughton kicking three conversions.
Gordon League were edged out 24-22 by Taunton II.
They trailed 19-17 at half-time after tries for Josh Jones and Kiernan Raybould, Ciarnan Sysum converting both and adding a penalty.
Ryan Stephens scored a second-half try but they only took home a losing bonus point.
Chosen Hill Former Pupils lost 63-5 at Cleve, Craig Thompson scoring the try for Chosen Hill.
Fairford were 32-8 winners at Colerne in Countires 2 Dorset and Wilts North as Keelan Little scored two of their tries.
Harry Stainton, Zach Beim and Ben Goodey scored the others, with Harri Cummings converting two and also kicking a penalty.
Smiths Rugby were 43-20 winners over Coney Hill to make it 10 wins from 10 in Counties 2 Gloucestershire North, and they lead the table by eight points.
Rowan Gale sored two tries, with one each for Tyler Rees, Jack Davies, Dan Jarvis, Marcus Raymond and Pete Reed, Oli Aherne with five conversions.
Coney Hill scored tries through Joe Porter and Sid King, with two conversions and two penalties for Ashley Lewis.
Arman Ghahremani led the way with a hat-trick as second-placed Old Patesians beat Hucclecote 46-28.
Lucas Town crossed twice with one each for Johnny Fenley, Charlie Maker and James McIntosh, Town adding three conversions.
Hucclecote’s tries came from Josh McGill, Harry Leftwich, James Price and Max Marshall, McGill converting one try and Charlie Hurst three.
Cheltenham North are third after Will Allenby’s try hat-trick set up a 39-12 win at Brockworth.
Simanu Tusiga and Clinton Steenkamp got their other tries, with Jack Fowler kicking 14 points, with two penalties and four conversions.
Brockworth scored two tries from Kurtis Herbert, one converted by Alex Fisher.
North are level on points with Old Richians, who beat Berry Hill 33-5, Connor Gallingwith with a hat-trick of tries.
Josh Painting and Tyler Malcolmscored a try apiece with four conversions from Luke Carr, while Josh Element crossed for Berry Hill.
Bredon Star were 31-26 winners over Stroud as they scored tries through George Gallagher, Tolly Wilson and a double for Will Wilson.
Jack Dowdeswell kicked four conversions and a drop goal.
Stroud’s tries came from Dean Tattersall and two for Harry Lightfoot, Joe Ashenford kicking three penalties and a conversion.
Try Padraig Hinds, Tadgh Galvin, Taylor Unett, Spencer Miller and Niall Galvin crossed for Gloucester Old Boys as they beat Cirencester 34-15
Unett also kicked two conversions and a penalty.
Bream are second in Counties 2 Gloucestershire South after beating North Bristol 64-12.
Ben Jones crossed for a hat-trick, and there were two tries for Elliott Teague and Harry Follos.
Nathan Thomson-Lee, Jake Scott and Callum Fissenden got the others with Aaron Ryder kicking seven conversions.
Fourth-placed Dursley edged out Southmead 18-17 with tries for Sam Evans and Calum Sweeney, Charlie Davison adding a conversion and two penalties.
Lydney II were 31-12 winners over bottom side Chipping Sodbury.
Widden Old Boys were 24-17 winners over CCS Warpigs in Counties 3 Gloucestershire North.
Akeem Richards, Fred Nicholson, George Morse and Thomas Morse all scored a try apiece for the third- placed Old Boys with Gavin Deane and Jordan Walker kicking a conversion.
Declan Harwood and Oliver Storer scored a try each for Warpigs with Will Markey and Thomas Moss adding a conversion each, Moss also kicking a penalty.
Lewis Bostock, Kyle Oliffe, Harrison Edwards, Elias Toure and Seamus O’Connor scored the tries as fourth-placed Spartans shut out Old Cryptians 29-0, Conn Mundie kicking two conversions.
Cheltenham Saracens were given a walkover by Matson II and sit second in the table, three points behind leaders Tewkesbury.
Second-bottom Minchinhampton gained their second win of the season as they beat bottom side Chosen Hill FP II 45-12 with Dan Wood, Cam Wallace and Joe Medd among the tries, Lewis Butler crossing twice for Chosen.
Ross-on-Wye were 58-0 winners over Aretians in Counties 4 Gloucestershire, Ollie Cronshaw with a hat-trick.
Connor Poole, Chay Brine and Kieron Clements all crossed twice, Kieron Terry with the other try.
Terry also kicked a conversion, as did Tomas Mulhearn, James Hughes and Poole.
