Runner loses shoe but qualifies for English Schools Cross Country Championship
WARRINGTON Athletics Club runners will be representing their county in the English Schools Cross Country Championships.
This follows performances in the Cheshire Schools Cross Country Championships at Knight’s Grange in Winsford on Saturday.
Those athletes finishing in the first six places in the junior, intermediate and senior age groups are automatically selected for the Cheshire team for the English Schools Championships, with two discretionary places to be added - meaning that those finishing seventh and eighth may also be included in the selection.
In the senior boys and girls events at the weekend, Jack Marwood was first and Imogen Wharton second.
Euan Lawton, despite losing a shoe shortly after the start, ran well to finish in fourth place in the junior boys, with Ashton Illingworth close behind in sixth.
Isaac McGuffie 10th, Josh Pryor 19th, Ben Shaw 23rd, Eddie Walker 38th and Joseph Barrett 40th completed the squad.
Evie-May Williams was fourth in the junior girls race, with Grace Rashud in eighth, Eva Hayes 15th and Ellie-Grace Stuart 35th.
Elizabeth Lees was third in the intermediate girls, while in the boys Ben Keeley was third while Elliot Taylor was eighth and Alfie Blizzard 16th.
In the minor girls race, Lois Johnston Starrs led the Warrington runners in sixth place with Evie Brazier Kobus in seventh.
Bethany Roberts, Evie Letts and Charlotte Andrew completed the squad in ninth, 12th and 15th places.
Finlay Jones led the minor boys team home in ninth place, with Fin Hill 22nd, Billy Donlan 33rd and Max Peers 42nd.
