Ruud van Nistelrooy explains how Tom Cannon transfer impacts Leicester City business
Ruud van Nistelrooy believes Tom Cannon’s £10m sale will make an impact on Leicester City’s transfer business but is not certain of new arrivals in the final 10 days of the window.
The City manager has only seen one new signing this January, £3m right-back Woyo Coulibaly, despite the club’s predicament at the bottom of the table. The money made from Cannon’s switch to Sheffield United should help business but does not guarantee arrivals, even with City understood to be keen on a winger and a centre-back.
“It’s clear the situation for the final week, we are looking at options to strengthen the squad,” van Nistelrooy said at his press conference on Friday morning. “This deal with Tom is part of that situation and looking at players to strengthen the team within the possibilities.

“No (the club’s commitment hasn’t changed), we’re still there. Of course things change when players like Tom leave. We’re still in that process.
“(The first few weeks of the window) have not been wasted because we’re putting our attention in the players we have to get the team improving and get the team out of this situation. New players are a bonus.
“We have a right-back that we needed. We’ll see if we can strengthen, but if not, we’ll work with what we have.
“It’s a work in progress. We’re trying to do what is possible within the possibilities. At this moment there is no news on anything.”
The paperwork over Coulibaly was not ready in time for him to take part in training ahead of the Fulham defeat, but he’s now had a full week with his team-mates at Seagrave. He is available for his debut against Tottenham this weekend.
