Ruud van Nistelrooy is reported to have frustrated some members of Leicester's staff with the time he took to conclude his post-match meeting with Liverpool head coach Arne Slot.

Compatriots Slot and Van Nistelrooy went head to head at Anfield on Boxing Day as the Reds came from behind to record a 3-1 win over Leicester.

Speaking in a post-match interview with Prime Video, Slot confirmed that he would spend some time catching up with Van Nistelrooy in between his media duties.

"There is beer but I don't think he wants one after this result, but it's nice," Slot said. "It's not only him, it's his wife and his children are in the room. We know each other a bit, so it's nice to have him in. If we don't have to go to the media that long, we can have some time together as well."

Van Nistelrooy and Slot faced off as the respective head coaches of PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord twice during the 2022-23 Eredivisie season, with PSV winning one of the games and the other ending in a draw.

Although Van Nistelrooy went into the Boxing Day meeting leading the head-to-head record between the two Dutchmen, it was Slot who ended that campaign the happiest as Feyenoord won the Dutch league title, while the former Manchester United striker left PSV before the final match of the season citing a lack of support.

Slot spoke prior to the match about how he was looking forward to seeing Van Nistelrooy, but it sounds like not everybody at Anfield was not particularly pleased about how long the post-match meeting went on for.

The Liverpool Echo's Paul Gorst wrote: "The assembled media were made to wait much longer than normal as Ruud van Nistelrooy took the opportunity for a post-match catch-up with Slot in the Reds boss' Anfield office.

"Van Nistelrooy cared little for newspaper deadlines and took his time over his meeting with Slot. The Leicester manager, in fact, took so long that even some of his staff were getting impatient at what time they were able to get on the long trip back to the Midlands.

"While Van Nistelrooy talked through the game with the media, a member of the Leicester party couldn't help but air some private frustrations at the ongoing delay around the departure. Clearly, many within the Foxes' contingent didn't want to stick around after a deserved defeat.

"The late bedtime of the players involved by the time they arrived back home from Merseyside was cited as reason for why those who travelled needed to get on to the motorway sooner rather than later. As it ticked closer to midnight, it was hard to argue."
