'You have to' - Ryan Gravenberch addresses Liverpool fitness fears
Ryan Gravenberch has played down fitness fears as his impressive season at Liverpool continues. The Netherlands international has established himself as first-choice under Arne Slot and gone on to excel as the Reds’ holding midfielder.
Such an opportunity only fell his way after Martin Zubimenidi rejected a move to Anfield in the summer. While the Real Sociedad midfielder is now reportedly set to agree a move to the Premier League with Arsenal, Liverpool have not revisited previous interest, with Gravenberch’s form ensuring the position is no longer a priority.
The Reds continue to compete on all four fronts as they lead the Premier League and Champions League tables, eye up a possible League Cup final appearance and progress in the FA Cup.

But there have been concerns about the strain placed on the Dutchman. Gravenberch has started all 27 of his appearances under Slot this season, with only Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister featuring in more games.
The 23-year-old has made the joint-most starts though, alongside Salah and Virgil van Dijk, and has only failed to complete 90 minutes on two occasions.
Mac Allister, Wataru Endo, Curtis Jones and Tyler Morton are alternatives to Gravenberch if required, but Slot has so far stuck with his compatriot.
And the midfielder has reassured supporters he is doing everything he can to stay fit and help Liverpool win trophies this season.
“I just want to give everything when I am on the pitch,” he said. “I want to show myself every day and also I just look after my body well.
“In terms of recovery I do everything, so I am really happy with the minutes that I have now and that I can show myself to everyone.
“You want to give everything and at the end titles are decided at the end of the season so you have to stay fit and give everything.”
Having dropped points against Nottingham Forest in midweek, Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table has dropped to four points.
And Gravenberch is well-aware the Reds need to start matches better and promised a change, starting away at Brentford on Saturday.
“It will be a difficult game, of course,” he told the club website. “We know also from last season, it was not easy, and we have to give our all.
“We have to start better than the game at Forest and then I think we have a good chance to win the game.
“It’s just the intensity what we give [and] I think also when we look at it back, it’s just the intensity in pressing and making the deep runs etc.
“It’s just that and we have to give that always from the start and then it will change, for sure.”
