Two Liverpool players are at risk of suspension as the Reds take on Tottenham today.

Arne Slot’s team will be aiming to strengthen their position at the summit of the Premier League in north London later, and claim top spot in time for Christmas. They may have to leapfrog Chelsea in order to do that, with the Blues just two points behind and facing Everton in the earlier kick-off.

Liverpool will know they face a tough test against Tottenham, although Ange Postecoglou’s side has been something of an unknown quantity this season. With the likes of Son Heung-min, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski though, the Reds will have to be at their best.

Two players though will be wary of getting themselves into any trouble. Both Ryan Gravenberch and Darwin Nunez are walking a suspension tightrope, with the pair just one yellow card away from a one-match ban.

Both have picked up four bookings already this season, and with the cut-off point still four games away for Liverpool, it’s looking likely that the Reds will be without them at some point over the next couple of weeks.

A yellow card for either would see them miss the Boxing Day clash with Leicester, while West Ham and Manchester United also lie in wait before Liverpool reaches the cut-off point. Losing Gravenberch in particular for any of those games would be a big blow, with the midfielder having been one of the Reds’ best performers this season.

Ibrahima Konate is also sitting on four yellow cards, although with the defender out injured at the moment, it’s looking like he will return after the cut-off point and avoid any potential suspension.

Liverpool also has three players getting close to the threshold. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai are all on three yellow cards for the season, and will need to avoid picking up two more bookings over the next four games.

Liverpool.com says: That’s a really tricky situation for Gravenberch. Liverpool could do with having him available for every game, such has his form been this season, but given he’s playing in the No.6 role, it’s almost inevitable that he will pick up a yellow card at some point over the next four games.

If it’s going to happen, today might be the best day for it. On paper at least, Leicester at home is one of the games you feel Liverpool might be able to make some changes for, so if Gravenberch is going to be unavailable, that’s the game for it.
