Ryan Porteous 'not happy' at Watford amid swirling Rangers transfer rumours
Ryan Porteous reportedly wants out of Watford just two years after moving to the English Championship outfit – amid swirling rumours of Rangers interest.
The Light Blues are in desperate need of central defensive reinforcements with Philippe Clement down to the bare bones in the heart of his rearguard due to injuries. A report from the continent claims the Scotland stopper could be on the move halfway through his four-year Hornets contract and they state Hull City have made an offer.
During his time at Hibs, Porteous was involved in a string of controversies against Rangers but that didn’t stop talk of a potential move to Ibrox to which he said: “That wouldn't go down too well.”
Porteous was slammed by ex Rangers boss Steven Gerrard for a challenge on Joe Aribo which earned him a red card in a game. The defender then mocked Gerrard after Hibs defeated Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup semi final shortly after England and Liverpool legend left the Light Blues.
Shortly before leaving Rangers for Aston Villa, Gerrard had said in an interview: “Do I look happy? Do I look settled? Don’t ask me silly questions then.”
And following Hibs win at Hampden when speaking to the same reporter, Emma Dodds, Porteous quipped: "Do we look happy? Don't ask silly questions then.”
With John Souttar and Leon Balogun injured, Rangers have been forced to play Dujon Sterling as a makeshift centre half and he also hobbled off against Hibs on Sunday to be replaced by Leon King who made his first appearance of the season.
The report stating Porteous is seeking a Watford exit claims the Scotland international: “he lacks the appreciation of coach Tom Cleverley, who left him on the bench for the full 90 minutes of last weekend's home league match against Sheffield Tom Cleverley,” adding, “Hull City are putting out feelers for Porteous.”
