Ryde Harriers dominate men's competition in 10-mile race

More than 500 athletes took part in a challenging ten-mile race in Ryde.

The Ryde 10m is part of the Hampshire Road Race League and was organised by Ryde Harriers.

The course started at Ryde Esplanade, winding through several scenic locations and hills before looping back to Ryde Harbour.

Ryde Harriers dominated the men's competition, securing all three podium positions.

Matt Sharp finished first in 53 minutes and six seconds.

Chris Newnham came second in 53 minutes and 49 seconds, while Gary Marshall took third place and was the first V40 in 56 minutes and one second.

These victories also led Ryde Harriers to win the men's team competition.

Daniel Furmidge, also from Ryde Harriers, claimed first place in the Vet 50 category.

Winchester Running Club showcased their prowess in the women's competition, with Sarah Gurney taking first place in one hour, five minutes and 36 seconds.

Karla Borland finished second, while Katie Horton from Eastleigh RC took third place.

Winchester Running Club also topped the women's team competition.

The race saw a total of 42 Ryde Harriers members competing, demonstrating the club's strength.

Ryde Harriers extended thanks to supporters of the event and announced their upcoming races: the Newport to Ryde on Easter Saturday and the West Wight 3 Hills.
