Charlie Adam has been appointed new set piece coach at Everton. The 39-year-old former Stoke City and Liverpool midfielder has been added to David Moyes' backroom team a month after he was sacked by Fleetwood Town, his first job as manager. Adam had previously coached at Burnley after retiring from playing.

Adam has been taken in by David Moyes for an increasingly common specialist role at Premier League clubs and he will work alongside former Stoke assistant manager Billy McKinlay, who played with Charlie's dad, Charlie Adam Sr, at Dundee United. Alan Irvine has signed up too as Moyes's number two.

Adan had a reputation for set pieces particularly during his time at Blackpool, and before he signed for Liverpool, Sir Alex Ferguson claimed he was worth £10m for his corners alone.

Moyes said: "I'm delighted to have been able to add Alan and Charlie to our coaching staff. Obviously, Alan is somebody who I have known for a very long time and have tremendous respect for. His knowledge of the game, as well as his understanding of what is required at Everton – a club that means a lot to both of us – will be invaluable.

"Charlie is someone I have had several chats with since rejoining the club. He will be helping with set-piece situations, an area he excelled in as a player and one I believe he can really help us with now as a coach.

"The two of them, along with Billy McKinlay and Leighton Baines, give us a really strong coaching foundation as we look to make positive strides forward."
