Saints confirm Cornet loan deal cut short allowing him to join Italian club
SAINTS have confirmed that winger Maxwel Cornet's season-long loan deal has been cut short, allowing him to join Geona on loan.
The Ivory Coast international made just four appearances the St Mary's following a last-minute deadline-day loan move at the end of August.
Cornet, 28, last played in Southampton's 3-2 FA Cup victory over Stoke City on 29 October, coming on in teh first half for the injured Ryan Fraser.
The former Burnley forward has now joined Serie A side Genoa, who sit 12th, on loan until the end of the season.
Cornet was never named in a squad by current boss Ivan Juric and played just 187 minutes in all competitions for Southampton.

A statement on the club's website said: "We thank Maxwel for his efforts during his time with us and wish him well for the future."
Cornet is the second player to depart Southampton this week, with fellow forward Ben Brereton Diaz joining Sheffield United on loan with an option to buy.
Southampton hope to complete the signing of Danish midfielder Albert Grønbæk on loan from Rennes with an option to buy.
