SHEFFIELD Wednesday have completed the signing of Saints hero Stuart Armstrong from Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps.

The 32 year old Scotland international made 222 appearances for Saints before he departed at the end of his contract last summer.

Armstrong, who joined in 2018, helped Saints to qualify for the Championship play-offs but missed out on the final matches through injury.

Following the conclusion of the MLS season, Armstrong now returns to English football with the next chapter of his career at Hillsborough.

Armstrong brings a wealth of experience to former Saints assistant Danny Röhl’s squad, adding depth and quality to Sheffield Wednesday.

Armstrong boasts an impressive career, with over 400 domestic appearances and 63 goals to his name, alongside 51 international caps for Scotland.

His professional journey began at Dundee United in 2010, where he made 150 appearances before securing a move to Celtic in 2015.

During his time in Glasgow, Armstrong enjoyed a hugely successful spell, winning three Scottish Premiership titles and successive domestic trebles.
