Salah and Alexander-Arnold deals agreed as £50m star arrives - Liverpool's dream January window
Christmas may have been and gone, but Liverpool fans will still be hoping that the club provides them with some of the greatest gifts they could ask for this month. The January transfer window is now open - and that means the Reds are able to go into the market for new signings, should they wish to do so.
Rumours have been swirling for several weeks now about players Liverpool might want to sign when the transfer window opens. Whether any of them are true remains to be seen, but it would be far too early, to say the least, to completely rule out any business at this stage.
It's not just new signings that have been the topic of speculation in recent weeks. The futures of existing members of Arne Slot's squad have also generated headlines across the season, and that is not likely to change as the weeks and months go on, as here the Liverpool ECHO takes a look at how Liverpool's dream January transfer window may look if everything was to go perfectly.

A trio of contracts
It's common knowledge that Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract at the end of the campaign. Now that January has arrived, though, all three are able to agree pre-contact deals - with clubs outside England - to sign as free agents in the summer.
Updates continue to emerge about each of he trio's futures, notably Salah and Alexander-Arnold in recent days. In the case of the latter, Real Madrid have already had an approach to sign the right-back in January rejected by Liverpool.
No one will know what is going to happen with each of Salah, Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk's respective futures. The overwhelming majority of Liverpool fans will want the trio to all put pen to paper on new deals as soon as possible.
If Liverpool can reach agreements with all three players over extensions, that would certainly be a dream start to 2025.
Davies deal agreed
'Opportunity' has been one of the words used to describe the transfer strategy under sporting director Richard Hughes over the last eight months. That was the case with Federico Chiesa, who arrived in a £12.5million deal last summer.
Liverpool will be busy scouting the market for bargains and deals they feel represent good value for money. One player who may fit that bill is Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies.
The left-back is out of contract in June, meaning Liverpool are able to enter talks over bringing him to Anfield as a free agent in the summer, should they wish. Reports in recent days have claimed that the Reds may have an interest in signing Davies, with left-back a position in the squad that could be in need of reinforcements between now and the start of next season.
Davies is reported to still be in talks with Bayern over extending his deal at the Allianz Arena. If a contract cannot be agreed, would a deal for the left-back fall into the 'opportunistic signing' that Liverpool like to take advantage of?
Martin Zubimendi move
It was only five months ago that Liverpool were showing a strong interest in signing Martin Zubimendi to strengthen their midfield options. In the end, though, the Spain international decided to stay at Real Sociedad rather than complete a move to Anfield.
Zubimendi is reported to still have the €60million (£50million) buyout clause in his contract, which Liverpool may look to activate should their interest remain. However, this time the Reds may have to battle with Manchester City and Arsenal for the midfielder's signature.
Liverpool are likely to only return to try and sign Zubimendi again if they are given the green light that the player wants to move to Merseyside. If that was to happen, though, it would certainly be a major boost to the squad for the second half of the season.
