Sam Byram addresses Leeds United future and outlines plans ahead of summer transfer window
Sam Byram says he would “love” to stay at Leeds United beyond the summer but has conceded that his future does not entirely rest in his own hands.
The 31-year-old academy graduate is a double centurion for the Whites, having marked his 200th appearance by keeping a clean sheet during the 1-0 win over Derby County on December 29, the final match of 2024.
Byram extended his contract by 12 months last summer, with his deal set to expire this June. The full-back has now made his ultimate renewal intentions clear ahead of the summer transfer window.

"Obviously, I'd love to stay here," he told BBC Radio Leeds. "But it's not always in the control of the player. For this season my aim is to get Leeds promoted and whatever comes after that will come.”
Byram - who has 59 games of Premier League experience under his belt after stints with West Ham and Norwich City - added that guiding Leeds back to the top-flight would be a career highlight.
“I think with any sort of goal you're striving for, you never really focus on when it's there because you are trying so hard to get to it,” he reasoned. "If, and hopefully when, it comes then you really sit and reflect.
“For me, if we were to do that, I can't think of anything in my career that I would have done that could top that."
Byram has yet to touch silverware during his senior career. He was under the tutelage of Daniel Farke at Norwich when Leeds clasped hands on the 2019/20 Championship title.
The defender was on the bench as Southampton edged Leeds in last year’s Championship play-off final, the winners of which receive a small trophy. But otherwise the closest he has come to winning a major honour was reaching the quarter-final of the League Cup in 2012 as Leeds lost 5-1 to Chelsea.
Byram also made the same stage of the competition with West Ham in 2017, albeit was ruled out of the tie with Arsenal due to a hamstring injury. A similar setback would also rule him out of Norwich's last-eight FA Cup tie against Manchester United in 2020.
Leeds host League Two outfit Harrogate Town on Saturday to kick off this term's FA Cup campaign. Byram says he is dreaming about going all the way to Wembley.
"I'd love to win it," he said of the FA Cup. "I think if there's any team in the Championship that can step up with the Premier League teams in a one-off game then I think it's us that can do something.
"Everybody wants a cup run. For me and everyone else we want to see how far we can go."
