Sancho decision, Palmer role, two leave - Dream Chelsea attack after Alejandro Garnacho transfer

Enzo Maresca could see three major attacking changes take place before the January transfer window closes. The Blues have been very active throughout the winter trading period, but the recall of Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace remains the only big deal completed this month.

Though the current issues appear to be in midfield and defence, Chelsea have mostly been looking at strengthening in attack. Mathys Tel, Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho have all been linked, but it looks as though focus is now firmly on the Manchester United star.

football.london understands that the Blues will make a bid in an attempt to try and sign Garnacho. Napoli have already seen an offer rejected by United but they are open to selling at the right price.

With that being said, it looks as though it is a deal Chelsea can get over the line, but it does bring into question who will consistently start in Maresca's favoured front four. Starting with the easiest decision, Cole Palmer is almost guaranteed to keep his place as the club's talisman.

Having enjoyed a breakout year last season, Palmer has continued his rich vein of form and currently sits on 14 goals and six assists from 22 games in all competitions. Joao Felix has impressed in cameos, but it is absolutely Palmer's spot to lose.

Though he has struggled for form in recent weeks, with links to Liam Delap arriving, Nicolas Jackson is still Maresca's first-choice striker with Christopher Nkunku significantly out of favour. That has perhaps come as of late due to significant interest from Bayern Munich in bringing the 27-year-old back to Germany.

While Chelsea seem to have funds available for Garnacho without making a sale, the departure of Nkunku would definitely help their financial position and also leave Maresca with one less team selection headache. Alongside that, Carney Chukwuemeka is also free to depart Stamford Bridge, having played just 130 minutes this season.

On the right, it is a straight battle between Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke. The latter currently has the position, having scored in the 3-1 win against Wolves earlier this week, but a few inconsistent performances, with Neto making an impact off the bench, could see that change.

On the opposite flank, Garnacho will be competing for the spot with former Manchester United teammate Jadon Sancho, who joined on a loan deal, which includes a £25million obligation-to-buy, last summer.

Given how he has performed since arriving from Old Trafford and the uncertainty surrounding Mykhailo Mudryk after he tested positive for a banned substance, Sancho is currently the obvious choice off the left, but that could change with Garnacho joining.

Maresca's favourite type of wingers are the ones that drive at full-backs and get shots off quickly. While more recently Garnacho has strayed away from that, he is certainly capable of being that again with his five goal attempts, two of which were on target, against Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday evening, proof of that.

In comparison to Sancho, Garnacho has over double the amount of goal contributions, which is perhaps evidence of the improved output Maresca will be hoping to see. As he beds into new surroundings, Sancho will likely remain in the starting XI, but beyond that, it feels inevitable Garnacho will replace him.

Dream Chelsea attack after January: Madueke, Palmer, Garnacho, Jackson.
