Sanders wins Ross Golf Club’s three clubs and putter event
STEVE SANDERS continues to make his mark as Ross Golf Club held their latest tournament.
The men’s seniors aged 55+ section kickstarted its 2025 programme of events when 66 entrants took part in the annual Three Club's and Putter 16 holes stableford competition.
Appropriately played this year from the club's navy tees, helped many players, to discover that they could be equally effective armed with a handful of golf clubs rather than a bag full.
For Sanders, having only joined the Ross Club's Gorsley based tree-lined course six months ago and returning to the game he left 25 years ago, it proved the ideal baptism to show his potential.
Sanders had already made an impression when taking part in the Seniors 2024 Winter pairs League when ably accompanied by Alan Standring.
On that occasion the pair enjoyed some prize-winnings in finishing in a creditable sixth place.
Still armed with his new golf clubs, as recommended by Ross Club's Tim Hall School of Golf team and in receiving some pointers from Professionals James Dobbs and Zach Galliford, the stage was set for Sanders to deliver a performance in his first singles competition worthy of his investment and this he duly did.
Scoring points on every hole and capturing six pars, Sanders’ consistent play amassed 36 points and he was a clear winner.
Ardent campaigner Roy Millington, still in good form having with Peter Shaw recently been declared, the 2024 Patrick Curtis Shield Winter Pairs League Champions, did his best to keep pace and his 34 points enabled him to claim the runners-up spot.
He was followed by Charles Reeve-Tucker also with 34 points, Chris Collen with 32 points and Geoff Robinson, Brian Carver and Phil Andrews with 31 points.
