As Manchester City were made to pay for wasted chances at Brentford on Tuesday night, Omar Marmoush was back among the goals and assists for Eintracht Frankfurt.

City are in talks with Frankfurt over a January transfer for the in-form striker, with the Bundesliga club insistent on an €80m fee (£67m). City are hopeful of a figure close to the £60m mark, and until a deal is reached Marmoush continues to play for his current employers.

After scoring the winning goal against former club St. Pauli on Saturday, Marmoush netted another goal against Freiburg on Tuesday night, helping Frankfurt recover from a goal down to win 4-1. The Egyptian striker saw his corner kick headed in for Frankfurt's equaliser, before volleying in a second goal at the second attempt and later sending a colleague into the area to complete the win that keeps his club third in the Bundesliga.

Compare that to City's hesitancy in front of goal at the Gtech Community Stadium on Tuesday, with Brentford mounting a late comeback to take a deserved point and stall City's resurgence following their poor run.

Marmoush now has 20 goals and 14 assists in 26 appearances this season, averaging a goal involvement every 57 minutes. Erling Haaland, for comparison, is averaging a goal contribution at almost a double rate to Marmoush at 112 minutes.

With talks continuing over a move to City, German media are speculating whether each game is Marmoush's last for Eintracht. 'A forceful farewell?' asked the local Frankfurt newspaper, while Bild also suggested Marmoush's heroics this week could be his final contribution to Eintracht's season.

However, the speculation is not affecting Marmoush in training or on the pitch, with teammate Robin Koch saying: "We saw that he was fully there and was throwing himself into it. It is not a huge issue. He's going full throttle, that speaks for him."

Compare that to City captain Kyle Walker, who has asked to leave and has been left out of the last two matchday squads as a result. Pep Guardiola cited his mentality and mindset as a reason for leaving him out against Salford at the weekend, and while he has trained since, he did not travel to London to take on Brentford - leaving Matheus Nunes to play at right-back instead.

Manager Dino Toppmoller offered a brief update on Marmoush after Frankfurt's win, saying he was waiting to be informed by sporting director Markus Krosche of any developments in negotiations, adding that it was 'no surprise' to see his professionalism remain amid the speculation and he can be 'proud of himself' with how he has handled the transfer interest.

Meanwhile, Krosche is quoted by Frankfurter Allgemeine as saying: "Marmoush is an outstanding player and person," adding that his attitude amid the speculation shows "how professionally" he pursues his passion.

With Frankfurt delighted by Marmoush's attitude, and his form reflecting his confidence and professionalism, City can be confident that if a fee is agreed then the striker can hit the ground running.
