I saw Ruben Amorim reaction to Joshua Zirkzee that summed up Manchester United's biggest problem

Manchester United suffered their seventh defeat of the season in the Premier League as they crashed to a disastrous 3-0 loss to Bournemouth.

It was the same scoreline by which the Cherries won at Old Trafford last season and it was an eye-opening afternoon for Ruben Amorim, who suffered his fourth defeat in nine games as head coach.

Dean Huijsen headed the visitors into a first-half lead, with United conceding from a set-piece once again. Justin Kluivert scored from the penalty spot early in the second half after a foul by Noussair Mazraoui and Antoine Semenyo put the game out of United's reach just after the hour mark.

Here are the moments you might have missed from yesterday's defeat:

Fernandes makes a note

When Huijsen showed greater hunger and sharpness to get in front of Joshua Zirkzee and head Bournemouth into the lead, Carlos Fernandes turned on his heels on the Old Trafford touchline and walked slowly back to the dugout, passing Amorim without a word shared.

The head coach and his assistant have a strong relationship and there is unlikely to be much friction between them, despite United's abysmal record from set-pieces on Fernandes' watch. He has taken over those duties and from Andreas Georgson, who remains on the staff, and has made United worse from them.

They have conceded six goals from set-pieces in six games now and that record isn't sustainable. After this latest horrow show Fernandes sat on the bench and started making a note. At 29 he is young to be the assistant head coach at United, and he will certainly be feeling the pressure now.

Zirkzee's desire

Zirkzee hardly covered himself in glory with his attempt to defend the free-kick from which Bournemouth scored, so when he jumped out of a challenge with Milos Kerkez early in the second half, it didn't go down well on the touchline.

Amorim jumped up and down in frustration and Zirkzee will be relieved he was on the other side of the pitch. It was a familiar pattern, as Diogo Dalot had already been agitated by his striker in the first half for a lack of effort in pressing from the front.

When Zirkzee made almost no physical effort to hold off Huijsen when Onana went long early in the second half, Amorim immediately turned to Carlos Fernandes and told him to get Rasmus Hojlund ready. It felt telling.

Rashford's move

There was around half-an-hour to kick-off when cameras picked up Marcus Rashford in the Old Trafford tunnel, wearing a club tracksuit and posing for pictures with mascots for the day. While his teammates were out warming up, the 27-year-old was a spectator once again.

By this stage of the saga, it's tempting to look at every decision and every comment through a public relations lens. Maybe the decision to attend was Rashford trying to show that he does care.

It's getting more and more difficult to see a way back for him, however. This is now three games in a row he has been out of the squad and with only two games left before the January transfer window opens, all eyes will be on the teamsheets against Wolves and Newcastle to see if his exile ends.
