I scored 41 goals for Newcastle United in ONE season and love watching Alexander Isak

There are few people more qualified to talk about scoring goals for Newcastle United than Andy Cole. Alan Shearer, of course, stands out when discussing United strikers, but even he couldn't match Cole's record of 41 goals in a single season in black-and-white.

So when the former Manchester United and England frontman gives his verdict on the current stars putting the ball into the back of the net for the Magpies, then you know it's worth listening to what he has to say. Cole took the Premier League by storm in United's first season in the top flight under Kevin Keegan back in 1993-94, forming a lethal partnership with Peter Beardlsey that left defences quaking.

But now the 53-year-old is enjoying watching the class of 2025 - and like the rest of us, can't get enough of Alexander Isak. The Swede is in incredible form for Eddie Howe's side, scoring eight Premier League goals in December alone as United climbed to fifth in the table.

His form has attracted inevitable transfer interest from the likes of Arsenal, but with Newcastle keen to match Isak's ambitions, he looks set to continue in a black-and-white shirt despite talk of a move. Cole feels Isak has every attribute to become a Premier League great - as a long as he can stay fit.

"I love watching Alexander Isak, I love what he’s got, he just needs to stay fit," Cole told CardPlayer.com.

"If he could stay fit then Newcastle would be a lot higher up the table. He has creativity, he has pace, he has all the attributes and you can see why other clubs are interested in him.

"If he stayed fit you’d be looking at something like Erling Haaland does at City in terms of consistently scoring goals. Newcastle would be in a much better position if he could stay fit."

Isak's incredible season has seen him score 13 goals in all competitions for United, adding a further four assists has the Magpies hit top form under Howe. He is again set to lead the line with they face Spurs in their first game of 2025 on Saturday lunchtime.
