Scott Parker felt his Burnley side were worthy of all three points against Middlesbrough, as he discussed the impact that the horrible conditions had on Friday evening's 1-1 draw.

Storm Darragh battered Turf Moor with heavy rain and strong winds, though you could make a strong argument that it was the hosts who benefited greater from that. After Anfernee Dijksteel put Boro ahead, Connor Roberts equalised for the Clarets with an effort from range that beat Seny Dieng as it looped up and down in the wind and caught the Boro keeper a little too far off his line.

In a game of two halves, the home side, beyond Boro's opener, dominated. Particularly after going behind, they put Boro under increased pressure and the equaliser felt like the least they deserved, albeit without making Dieng contribute with too many saves. In contrast, Boro were much-improved after the break and while the hosts still had a threat, it was Boro who had four really good opportunities to have retaken the lead before the spoils were ultimately shared.

Parker said: “Probably not satisfied because I thought we were worthy of three points tonight. Conditions definitely played a large factor in the game, for both teams really. The wind and the rain, it was tough. My general assessment over the course of the whole game: I thought first half we were superb.

"They score a goal against the run of play and probably down to us a bit - we gifted that in the way we positioned ourselves. But the reaction that got - it got a reaction that was nothing short of superb. We knocked on the door for large parts of the first half and were well worthy of our goal. It was a very, very good goal from Connor.

"Second half, it ebbed and flowed a bit and they were a threat on counters which we had to be aware of. We probably made some poor decisions when the game became a bit open. We maybe could have executed it better. Overall, I’m pleased with tonight’s performance."

Asked about the conditions and whether they helped bring about his side's equaliser, he continued: “Connor Roberts is an international player who brings loads of experience and was quality. He’s been quality all season and that was a great moment for him.

"The weather probably plays a big part in it. The goalkeeper’s position was high. I’ve not looked at it back, but maybe the conditions have had an impact on that. The flight of the ball was out all night. When it goes up in the air you just don’t know where it’s going to land and that affects the judgement of the players.

"Corners, set plays, the general flight of the ball, it’s something the players now can anticipate usually. It’s probably fair to say the weather had a huge impact."
