Scott Williams dismisses rude Rob Cross gesture as he refuses to 'be an a**e' to his mate
Scott Williams has dismissed the lewd gesture that could land pal Rob Cross in darts bother. Instead, Shaggy turned his guns on a cameraman as he refused to be “an a**e” to his mate.
Cross sparked a social-media trial after being accused of the act at the Ally Pally during their World Championship second round match. The 2018 champ was walking off the stage at the end of the second set with the Sky TV cameras following his walk to the steps. As he did so, the Londoner glanced back out towards the area housing the crowd and made a motion which was captured by the cameras.
Immediately, a clip of the gesture was shared and spread across social-media with various individuals claiming it was of a rude nature. Williams brushed it off and said: “Firstly, I wasn’t aware of anything. Secondly, regardless of what he did, I don’t really care. I’ve just played one of my best, closest pals for £10,000. There’s not many people who have done that, so I’m not bothered at what he did.
“We had a chat before and we had a chat afterwards. I love him and he’s great. We’ll see each other over Christmas and over the next couple of months and whatever he’s doing and we’ll be exactly the same.
“I’ve got to pop round his house to drop off the Christmas presents for the kids and I’ve got to pick some up for my kids. That’s how close we are.
“But I’m not there to be an a**e to someone that isn’t an a**e to me. He didn’t give it massive. You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do and, if the person in front of you is giving it, you give it back. It’s a tough game.
“Honestly, it’s so tough because he’s obviously one of my closest friends ever. Obviously, that is one of the things that people say.
“But up on that stage, I’ve got to treat it like I’m playing one of my best mates for ten grand. That’s exactly what’s happened.
“And I think in his head, maybe, sometimes you don’t know what’s going on in Rob’s head, is the fact that that could have been in his head. He wasn’t great, I wasn’t great.”
Williams fell a set down and was unhappy on stage afterwards. He revealed: “What actually put me off was one of the cameras was moving whilst I was going for the double and I could see it in the eye line.
“Whether the guy was a new guy and didn’t know what he’s doing, I don’t know. That put me off a little bit. I wasn’t happy about that, but I expressed my feelings and it was sorted from there.”
