Who they're for: Golfers who want a classic-looking blade or mid-size mallet putter that offers a softer feel and sound than a traditional milled putter.

What you should know: Each of the Studio Style putters has been designed with a classic shape and carbon steel insert crafted with a new chain-link pattern that is designed to soften the sound and feel at impact.

The deep dive: Scotty Cameron releases putter updates in cycles, alternating between modern mallets and the classic blades that many golfers associate with Titleist’s master craftsman. Last year, Cameron debuted the new Phantom mallets, which feature a dual-milling design and a blend of 303 stainless steel and dark-finished aluminum. Cameron connoisseurs anticipated that in 2025, he would update the Super Select blades released two years ago. However, few expected this season’s release to bring such a unique update to the Scotty Cameron lineup.

Twenty years ago, Scotty Cameron introduced the first Studio Style putters. Now that name returns, along with the feature that made those putters unique: inserts!

Each blade and mid-size mallet is milled from a block of 303 stainless steel and has a pair of sole weights that allow fitters to adjust the swing weight based on the putter's length or a golfer’s preferences.

The 2025 Studio Style putters include a carbon steel insert with a chain-link pattern running across it. Previously, carbon steel – softer than both 303 stainless steel and German stainless steel (GSS) – was only available in “Tour Only” putters crafted exclusively for top players. Now it has been added to the Studio Style putters in the form of an insert covered by an electroless nickel plating that prevents rust and corrosion without making the material feel harder.

The insert is held in place by four screws visible on the back of the head. A thin layer of aerospace-grade vibration-dampening material lies behind the insert. While creating an entire putter from milled carbon steel would price it out of the retail market, using the material as an insert softens the feel and sound at impact, which was Cameron’s goal for the Studio Style family.

The chain-link pattern on the insert was inspired by the grilles of European cars. Cameron views it as a more elegant way to achieve what deep-mill and dual-milling patterns accomplished in earlier putters. The pattern works with the carbon steel to soften the impact feel and enrich the sound.

Cameron also designed a new grip for the Studio Style putters, a slimmer version of the Full Contact paddle grip used on Phantom putters. Like the insert, the grip features a chain-link pattern for enhanced texture.

The Studio Style blade putter lineup for 2025 includes:

  • Newport and Newport Plus: A classic heel-toe-weighted blade with a plumber’s neck hosel, rounded back bumpers and a traditional look at address. The Newport Plus has a similar shape but includes an aluminum sole plate to reduce weight and an extended back flange for increased stability.

  • Newport 2, Newport 2 Plus, Newport 2.5 Plus: The most popular Scotty Cameron heel-toe-weighted blade-style putter, featuring a plumber’s neck hosel. For 2025 the blade length has been increased and the topline slightly thickened based on PGA Tour feedback. The Newport Plus shares the same shape but includes an aluminum sole plate and extended back flange for greater stability. The Newport 2.5 Plus has the same head as the Newport 2 Plus but features a small slant-neck hosel to increase toe hang.

  • Catalina: Combines the rounded shape of a Newport Plus with the blade length of a Newport 2 Plus and includes a single-bend shaft.

The Studio Style mallets include noticeable black aluminum pieces in the heel and toe sections. Using aluminum allowed Cameron to concentrate more weight farther back, enhancing stability without enlarging the putters. The black bands also create a high-contrast alignment aid to help players better align the face with the target.

The Studio Style mallet lineup includes:

  • Fastback, Fastback 1.5: A rounded, ring-weighted mid-mallet with a single-bend shaft and echoes of a Newport blade in the front. It offers a higher moment of inertia and enhanced forgiveness compared to earlier Fastbacks. The Fastback 1.5 features the same head with a short slant-neck hosel.

  • Squareback, Squareback 2: An angular mallet with high-contrast aluminum accents and a single-bend shaft. The 303 stainless steel front echoes Newport-style blades. The Squareback 2 has a plumber’s neck hosel.

The Fastback and Squareback models are also available as extended-length putters. These Long Design putters come standard at 38 inches but can be custom-ordered in lengths from 36 to 40 inches. They feature a stiffer shaft and a 17-inch non-tapered grip.
