A second departure is agreed on a busy day of exits at Newcastle United
JAMIE MILEY has completed a permanent move from Newcastle United to National League side Hartlepool United.
On a busy day that also saw Miguel Almiron leave Tyneside to join Atlanta United, Miley, who is the 21-year-old elder brother of Magpies midfielder Lewis, has joined Pools after returning from a loan spell at Newport County in the first half of the season.
Having first joined Newcastle’s academy at the age of 11, Miley signed his first professional contract in 2022. He made first-team appearances in successive pre-seasons under Eddie Howe, playing alongside Lewis at Gateshead in 2023 before also making starts against Hull City and Girona last summer.
He has been a regular at Under-21s level with the Magpies, but will now join Pools as they look to climb back into the Football League.
“This is a great opportunity at the right time for Jamie and I'm sure he'll be a big success at Hartlepool,” said Newcastle academy director Steve Harper. "I’d like to thank Jamie for his efforts over many years and wish him the very best of luck for the future.”

Miley made eight League Two appearances with Newport prior to returning to Tyneside, and is available to make his Pools debut in Saturday’s game at Braintree Town.
“I’m delighted to be here,” said Miley. “I had a great feeling as soon as I walked into training, and I really wanted to get things over the line.
“I can’t wait to get going and playing in front of the fans. I’ve seen videos of the fanbase and, being a North-East lad, I know how passionate the supporters can be so I’m really looking forward to it.”
Pools’ midfield has lacked creativity on occasion this season, with boss Lennie Lawrence hoping Miley will have a positive impact after heading down the A19.
“We’re delighted to bring Jamie to the club,” said Lawrence. “He’s shown fantastic attitude during his time training with us and we’re really pleased to have him here permanently.
“It shows intent from the club and chairman in making this kind of signing, both to strengthen the squad now but also with longer-term planning.
“Jamie has great quality and real potential. He’s been unfortunate with injuries over the last year, but hopefully we can provide him with a home where he can enjoy his football and continue to grow as a player.”
