Secret Arne Slot Nottingham Forest transfer chat revealed as Liverpool boss told striker what to do
Santiago Gimenez has revealed he spoke to Liverpool boss Arne Slot about a transfer to Nottingham Forest before turning down a move to the City Ground.
Slot signed Gimenez for Feyenoord in July 2022 and the Mexico international striker enjoyed two prolific seasons under the Dutchman before he departed for Anfield last summer. Gimenez also had the chance to swap the Eredivisie for the Premier League before the start of this season, but rejected Forest after talks with the club.
It was suggested he turned a transfer down because he feared joining a relegation battle in the Premier League, which has been proven spectacularly wrong with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side currently in third place in the Premier League behind Slot’s Liverpool, and Arsenal.
Feyenoord’s director of football Dennis te Kloese also said Gimenez stayed at Feyenoord because he didn’t “get a very warm feeling” about joining Forest.
Now, speaking to ESPN, Gimenez has revealed he discussed a potential move to Forest with Slot. He said: “I spoke to him a couple of times when I got that offer.
“I asked him for his advice, and he gave it to me. The content of the conversation remains between us, but that was the last time we spoke.”
