Huddersfield Town midfielder Herbie Kane says their “character and mentality” has been behind their long unbeaten run in League One.

The Terriers will look to make it 17 games without defeat in the division when they host ninth-placed Bolton Wanderers at the John Smith’s Stadium tomorrow lunchtime.

Town are unbeaten in more than three-and-a-half months of their league campaign. When asked what he put that down to, Kane said: “I think character and mentality, I think that’s been massive for us in games.

“In some games we haven’t played our best or things haven’t gone our way, but we’ve managed to stick in the game and get a result from it. I think the mentality of the group, from the start of the season to now, has grown massively.”

Michael Duff’s side had to demonstrate those qualities in their last encounter at Blackpool, where they battled back from two goals down to claim a 2-2 draw at Bloomfield Road. Kane reflected: “It was a tricky afternoon.

“They’re a team that are difficult to play against, we made it hard for ourselves first half especially, but I think the character from the lads showed in the second half, and in the end I think it was a good point.”

The Terriers face a Bolton side next up that parted company with Ian Evatt in midweek. On their upcoming clash, Kane said: “They obviously had a way of playing before with their previous manager, but I don’t know what that will mean, in terms of the game on Saturday.

“They’ve got some good players, and a good team that they’ve shown throughout the years, and we can only face what’s in front of us. We’ll be focusing on our self and trying to win that game.”

Town have faced the Trotters twice this season, with the Terriers registering a 4-0 victory in the reverse league fixture in September, before being knocked out of the EFL Trophy with a 3-1 defeat at the Toughsheet Community Stadium in December.

Kane believes there isn’t much to be drawn from either of those fixtures heading into tomorrow's clash, with the midfielder saying: “It was a long time ago that win at their place, I think we’ve grown from then, and probably they’ve changed as well.

“I think it’s irrelevant the previous results, and we can only focus on the game Saturday, and we’ll be doing what we can to make sure the result goes our way.”
