Selles sets out Hull City challenge ahead of Blackburn Rovers test
Ruben Selles has called on his Hull City side to be more clinical in the final third ahead of their trip to Rovers.
The Tigers suffered a 1-0 defeat at Preston North End on Boxing Day and remain in the bottom three.
Selles was named as Hull’s new boss just before Rovers won at the MKM Stadium last month and watched the action from the stands.
The Spaniard expects another tough test against John Eustace’s men and knows they are difficult to score against.
“It was the game we watched from the stands, they are a very competitive side,” he told the club channels. “First of all, we need to be fresh for the game.
“We need to be as competitive as (Boxing Day) at least and if we create situations, we need to make those count.
“I think we will be prepared to compete, but there are still a couple of players where we need to see how they recover. We need to make sure that we have the correct line-up to play the game.
“They are a team who are very compact in the defensive moments, waiting for their moments and going very quickly in transitions.
“They have conceded very few goals and know exactly what to do in every moment. They will be difficult to beat, of course.”
Selles felt there were positives his side can build on against PNE despite leaving Deepdale empty-handed.
“We created situations to score at least one goal and then, in one moment, we went 1-0 down and never recovered in terms of the score,” he added.
“I think we were competitive enough. We created situations and need to make them count, we just need to work on the details.
“You come away from difficult games in difficult competitions and, firstly, we need to be competitive. Secondly, we need to win football matches. Without being competitive we are not going to win games.”
