Sema's seven-year stay at Vicarage Road comes to an end
The long and successful Watford career of Ken Sema has come to an end.
The Watford Observer understands the 31-year-old has left by mutual consent and signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Cypriot side Pafos FC, where he will be reunited with former Hornets sporting director Cristiano Giaretta.
Pafos are currently top of the Cypriot First Division, and are still in the UEFA Conference League – they face Omonoia in the knockout phase next month.
Sema joined Watford from Ostersund for around £2m in the summer of 2018, and apart from a season out on loan at Udinese, has been with Watford for the almost seven years since.
He has made 176 appearances for the Hornets and scored 13 goals, as well as claiming 21 assists.
During his time at Vicarage Road he has been a regular in the Swedish national team squad, and now has 24 full caps.
This season he has played 17 times, but only seven of those have been as a starter.
His last outing was as a late substitute at Plymouth in November, and he hasn’t been in the squad since the home win over Bristol City four days after that.
Last season he scored a stunning goal to earn a 1-0 away win at Swansea, which ended the Hornets long run of games on the road without success.
Towards the end of last season, Sema spoke at length to The Watford Observer in a two-part interview about his time at Vicarage Road, and how he had taken the club and the town to heart.
You can read the first part of that interview here, and the second part is available here.
In July, Sema and his wife Sara proudly announced the birth of their son Romeo, their second child.
Always a popular player with the fans, Sema was dubbed King Ken by the Vicarage Road faithful.
At the end of last season, the Swede was named Watford FC’s PFA Community Champion for his work supporting the club’s community scheme.
