Senior team for Glasgow's 2026 Commonwealth Games announced

Glasgow's senior team for the 2026 Commonwealth Games has been revealed.

The team is said to offer a wealth of expertise and experience in delivering major sporting events.

Senior team (Image: Glasgow 2026) Phil Batty has been revealed as the chief executive officer, he will be tasked with delivering the games. With a history in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, he is expected to bring expertise and knowledge of the social impact of the games.

He said: "Delivering the Games is a team effort, which will bring over £100m of inward investment into the city, and I am looking forward to working with such a hugely talented workforce, experienced network of suppliers, partners, and local communities to bring the vision for Glasgow 2026 to life."

Phil Batty (Image: Glasgow 2026) Jade Gallagher was announced as the chief operating officer. The new COO has a wealth of experience in events having just been the director of the World Athletics Indoor Championships, also held in Glasgow last year.

Faye Shaw has been appointed as chief financial and corporate services officer. Coming from the role of managing director of Serco Business Services and CFO of VIVO Defence Services will bring expertise in commercial, operational and financial issues to the games.

Louisa Mahon will be the chief marketing and communications officer. She was previously the head of marketing, communications and events for Renfrewshire Council.

(Image: Newsquest) Martin Fitchie will be joining the team as chief information officer. He has a wide range of experience in working in sporting events in Scotland including the 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow.

George Black CBE, chair of the Glasgow 2026 organising company has welcomed the team to their new roles and is "looking forward to working closely with them."

He said: “We have brought together a passionate and skilled team with a real mix of experience to ensure that we will deliver the best possible Games for the people of Glasgow, Scotland and the Commonwealth.”

Team Scotland 2014 (Image: Newsquest) Katie Sasleir NZOM, chief executive of Commonwealth Games Federation has said that the forming of the senior team is "an important milestone" for the development of the games.

Glasgow is the host for the 2026 games since the original hosting city, Victoria in Australia backed out.

These games are going to be a scaled-down version of the event we saw in 2014.
