Senior's 'pride' in City Ladies second-half effort after escaping relegation zone
EMILY Senior expressed her pride in her York City Ladies side after coming from behind to claim a crucial 3-1 win against AFC Fylde Women.
With the two sides occupying the FA Women's National League Division One North, three points were a necessity for York, who struggled in the first-half.
City responded magnificently in the second 45, in a spirited performance that manager Senior had pride in.
"I'm really proud, really, really proud," Senior enthused to club media.
"The first-half was the opposite, at half-time I wasn't impressed at all with our in possession play.
"Fair play to Fylde, they caused a lot of problems in that first-half and we couldn't solve the midfield situation. I was really frustrated at half-time.
"I've just said to the squad, it's a one to 16 performance and that has to be the mentality moving forward. That's exactly what we've done today.
"I'm most impressed with that second-half because we looked relentless, we haven't had that, we haven't seen that yet."
Jess Holder and Fylde's Imogen Borrowdale both had strikes that missed the target, with Becky Sidwell then keeping out a tame effort.
On the brink of half-time, the Coasters a led as Demi Devereaux picked out Natasha Dale, whose effort proved too powerful for Sidwell.
The Minsterbelles responded in the second 45 as a loose ball dropped to Felicity Jones, who produced an emphatic equaliser.
York earned the lead as Emia Hendrickson-Eastwood registered the third goal of the match, with less than 15 minutes on the clock.
With 84 minutes played, the match was settled as Jones slotted a one-on-one past the Fylde goalkeeper, taking the Minsterbelles to ninth position, two places out of the drop zone.
