Former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero believes Omar Marmoush, who will imminently be signing for his old side, could face a "major challenge" when he arrives in England because of Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah.

Marmoush, who has scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists in 26 games in all competitions for Eintracht Frankfurt this season so far, is set to move to the Etihad Stadium for a fee of around $82m (£68m/€80m). In doing so, he will join fellow Egyptian Salah in the Premier League.

But Aguero says he could be compared with Salah as a result of his nationality, potentially leading to him finding adapting to a new league tricky. The Liverpool talisman has had an even more prolific campaign, netting 21 and laying on 17 for his teammates.

"Salah's got an amazing trajectory and a track record of consistency in the Premier League for many years," Aguero told Stake. "Marmoush will have to prove he can repeat his great performance in Germany in a new league. He’s got the conditions to develop as a player, and I suppose that having Salah as a benchmark will pose as a major challenge."

Manchester City has also signed Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis and is chasing Juventus duo Andrea Cambiaso and Douglas Luiz with Pep Guardiola splashing the cash in the winter window in a bid to around his side's poor form. Kyle Walker could depart amid interest from various clubs while Erling Haaland has signed a mega nine-and-a-half-year contract.

Liverpool.com says: Manchester City spending big should not be a surprise in some ways, but amid the wait to discover the outcome of its Premier League charges, it is a bold move. Guardiola's men won't be catching Liverpool in the Premier League this season but if Marmoush can hit the ground running, it could become a contender for the Champions League.
