Sergio Ramos names ex Rangers and Dundee hero as his FAVOURITE player growing up
The Brazilian Ronaldo stands out on his own when it comes to greatness. And considering Sergio Ramos' incredible history with Real Madrid, it doesn't come as much of a surprise to learn that the iconic striker ranks amongst his favourite players of all time.
But the four-time Champions League winner had two favourite players growing up, and his second idol might surprise Rangers and Dundee fans. In a TikTok Q&A, Ramos - now captain of Mexican club Monterrey - revealed: "Ronaldo of Brazil and Claudio Cannigia of Argentina."
A cult hero at Dens Park and Ibrox, Cannigia became a fans' favourite with every club he played for, starring at River Plate, Hellas Verona, Atalanta, Roma, Benfica and Boca Juniors. Capped 50 times by Argentina, the 1990 World Cup runner-up then stunned the footballing world by pitching up at Tayside in 2000.
A former striker partner of Diego Maradona, Cannigia became an instant hit at the Dees before landing a move to Gers a year later, helping Alex McLeish's side to a famous Treble.
Ramos - who spent 16 glorious years at the Bernabeu - scored more than a century of goals for the Spanish heavyweights, despite being a defender.
The legendary captain played with and against some of the greatest players of his generation but was left star-struck after bumping into Cannigia during Napoli's visit to the Bernabeu in 2017. Ramos swapped shirts with his hero and told how the football megastar inspired him to grow his hair during his younger days. He wrote on X: "One of my all-time idols. His goals inspired me and so did his hair."
