Seventeen-year-old Rafferty Mirfin wins Northern U20 Men's 800m
A 17-year-old runner has won the Northern U20 Men's 800m - while competing in the age bracket for the very first time.
Rafferty Mirfin, representing Skyrac AC, gained the victory at the English Institute of Sport, in Sheffield, where the race was hosted as part of the Northern Senior, U20, & U17 Indoor Championships 2025.
Rafferty finished with a season-best time of 1:52:75, just shy of his personal best.
The athlete crossed the line some six seconds ahead of his nearest rival.
His coach, Gordon Agar, said: "Rafferty is a phenomenal young athlete with a bright future.
"His commitment to training and his ability to perform under pressure continue to impress.
"This is just the beginning for him in this age group."
In 2024, Rafferty was crowned Yorkshire U17 800m Champion, triumphed at the English Schools’ 800m, and represented England at the School Games, where he claimed victory in the 800m.
