Hull City's trip to Sheffield United on Friday night is scheduled to go ahead as planned, at this stage, despite the impact of Storm Eowyn. Ruben Selles' side, who were beaten 2-1 at home to QPR last time out, travel down to Bramall Lane looking to move out of the Championship bottom three.

However, there has been concern about whether the game could be postponed after Storm Eowyn arrived in Sheffield on Friday morning. Disruption has been seen across the city already with strong winds closing Sheffield's outdoor market, while power cuts and train cancellations have also occurred.

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for Sheffield, which could have a major impact on Hull's fixture against the Blades. On what to expect, the Met Office said in a statement: "Power cuts are likely to occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

"Road, rail, air and ferry services are likely to be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible. Some roads and bridges will close. There is a chance that damage to buildings and homes could occur, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down.

"Injuries and danger to life could occur from flying debris, as well as large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties."

A yellow weather warning has also been put in place around Sheffield and the county. On what to expect, the Met Office said: "Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen. Power cuts are likely to occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

At the time of writing, the game is scheduled to take place as planned at 8pm on Friday.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United's travel plans to face Southampton this weekend have been impacted. Head coach Eddie Howe revealed on Friday morning that the Magpies might have to fly to the south coast on the morning on the game rather than on Friday afternoon as scheduled because of high winds.

Howe said: "We'll see how today goes. Our plan, as always, is to travel today, but we'll seek advice from the authorities at the airport and everyone involved whether it's safe to fly. If it's not, we could end up travelling tomorrow morning."
