Shock Trent Alexander-Arnold call for Nottingham Forest weighed up as Liverpool message sent
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has been told he must play Trent Alexander-Arnold against Nottingham Forest.
Alexander-Arnold faced some criticism for his performance in Liverpool’s last Premier League match against Manchester United and there were also suggestions he may be distracted by a potential transfer to Real Madrid, who made a bid for him earlier this month.
After a 2-2 draw against Manchester United, Alexander-Arnold was named on the subs’ bench for Liverpool’s next game against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup, which they lost 1-0, before returning to the starting line-up and scoring in a 4-0 win against Accrington in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Forest face Liverpool in a huge match at the City Ground in the Premier League on Tuesday night (8pm), with Nuno’s side in third place and six points behind leaders Liverpool. Ahead of the match, pundit Paul Merson has delivered his verdict on whether Alexander-Arnold should start against the Reds.
He told Sportskeeda: “Some section of Liverpool fans want Conor Bradley to start ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold? Don’t get me wrong, I like Bradley. But no one would want Alexander-Arnold sitting on the bench in a game like this, let’s be honest.
“You have to play him in my opinion. He’s not the best defender in the world, but what he gives while going forward is just from another planet.”
