Golf’s ongoing dispute between the PGA Tour and LIV will be put on hold as four of the game’s biggest stars take part in the 2024 edition of ‘The Showdown’.

Rory McIlroy will partner world number one Scottie Scheffler to take on LIV stars Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in a one-off event in Tuesday in Las Vegas.

It will be the first time PGA Tour players and LIV players have competed against each other outside of the majors and the Olympics with LIV golfers banned from playing in PGA Tour events.

While a framework agreement between the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour and the PIF was signed back in June 2023, the merger deal as stalled. There are hopes that this week’s event in Las Vegas could help get a deal over the line.

The format will be three six-hold contests to replicate the Ryder Cup with the first six holes as four-balls, the next as foursomes and finishing as two singles matches.

McIlroy finished the year on a high with a win at the DP World Tour Championship, but his 2024 season was overshadowed by a series of near-misses, most notably when his US Open meltdown opened the door for DeChambeau to win at Pinehurst.

The tee times have yet to be confirmed although coverage of the event is scheduled to start at 11pm.

The showdown is being shown live on TNT Sports from 11pm.
