Former Championship hitman Sam Parkin believed Liverpool loanee Jayden Danns and Sunderland star Wilson Isidor could be a highly-effective combination.

The ex-Swindon Town, Ipswich Town and Luton Town forward, now 43, was impressed that Sunderland went into the winter transfer window with an aim to add more firepower and that they were able to secure the signature of Danns from Liverpool on deadline day.

The Black Cats beat off stiff competition from Hull City to land Danns, who will have to wait for his debut due to a back injury. The youngster's issue was spotted on his medical and he has returned to his parent club for treatment and rehab work.

Sunderland striker Isidor is having an impressive season and Parkin reckoned that the combination of Danns and the French forward might bear fruit for Le Bris’s side. Parkin also added that a player of the quality of Danns is a great signing for Sunderland and added that the Liverpool loanee not being as strong as Isidor could complement each other’s game.

Speaking on the Championship Check-In Show, Parkin said: “It has been an up-and-down couple of weeks for him [Isidor], but I suppose getting a young player with Danns’ quality, they have shown they can play two up as well, successfully.

“It has normally been Mayenda and Isidor, combination of the two, maybe one dropping in to a degree, but I think he could play Danns. I think Danns probably is not as sprightly on the shoulder as Isidor, so that combination might work, so I think that is a really good get.”

Sunderland are pushing to win promotion up to the Premier League this season and Le Bris will be hoping Danns can chip in with crucial goals. Danns progressed through the Liverpool academy and began playing for the Liverpool U18 side when he was 16.

He began the 2023/24 season in fine form, scoring in every competitive match for Liverpool U18s between August and December 2023, totalling nine goals in seven games. He also scored four goals in three games in the 2023/24 U18 Premier League Cup.

Danns made his debut under Jurgen Klopp at first-team level in the 2023/24 EFL Trophy, appearing as a second-half substitute against Morecambe in September 2023.

He made his Premier League debut as an 89th-minute substitute in a 4–1 home win over Luton Town in February 2024. Four days later, he featured in the 2024 EFL Cup final as Liverpool beat Chelsea 1–0 at Wembley Stadium.

He scored his first and second goals for Liverpool on February 28 wo24 in the fifth round of the FA Cup in a 3–0 home victory against Southampton. In March last year he signed a long-term deal at Anfield.
