IF Warrington Town are to avoid getting cut adrift at the bottom of the National League North, wins need to start coming fast.

And as they make the long midweek trip to Hereford in search of just that tonight, they are likely to have a new signing in their midst.

It is understood Yellows have added Matt Makinson – who spent a brief spell with the club during the 2017-18 season – to their squad, and the defender is set to feature at Edgar Street this evening.

The 26-year-old was most recently with League of Ireland side Finn Harps, for whom he made 52 appearances after joining in 2023.

He joins a Town squad that did not play at the weekend after their scheduled trip to Spennymoor Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch but one that is still stretched as they go looking for just their second away victory of the season, with skipper Josh Amis and defensive trio Peter Clarke, Evan Gumbs and Andy White still absent through injury.

They sit bottom of the table and six points from safety but while even a victory will not be enough to move them out of the drop zone, avoiding defeat would at least move them off the foot of the division.

They face a Hereford side in good form having won five of their last six National League North matches, but travel south in the knowledge that they know what it takes to beat the Bulls this season.

One of Town’s five league victories this season came in October’s reverse fixture at the Cal.Delivery Stadium, with Gumbs and Amis on target in a 2-0 victory.

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7.45pm.
