Radio host Jim White has put cash on the table and tipped Nottingham Forest to be crowned Premier League champions this season.

The talkSPORT presenter has backed Nuno Espirito Santo’s side to triumph in the title race. And he has put his money where his mouth is by making a bet with colleague Simon Jordan over where the Reds will finish.

Forest are currently third in the table and on a seven-match unbeaten streak in the league. On a dramatic night at the City Ground on Tuesday they drew 1-1 with leaders Liverpool, keeping the gap between the two teams at six points.

Debating whether Nuno’s men can finish top of the pile, White said on his talkSPORT show: "I think they have a very good chance of winning the league. I'm not Mystic Meg, so I can't tell you now, 'Yes, they're going to win it.' I think they have an excellent chance of winning the league title."

Fellow co-host Jordan replied: "We should make him put a wager on it. See how much his conviction, how deep his belief system is. I'll have a bet that they won't win the league and I'm prepared to back it up with cash.

"(I’ll bet) even money. I'll bet you a certain amount of money, and whoever gets the win, (the money) goes to a particular charity."

Jordan and White then agreed to a £100 wager, before the latter jokingly pleaded with everyone connected to the club to do their best to make sure they prove him right. He quipped: "Nottingham Forest, players, Mr Marinakis (Forest owner Evangelos), if you're listening this morning I am risking £100 against Simon Templar's £100. I say that Nottingham Forest will win the Premier League. Mr Templar, AKA Simon Jordan, is saying Liverpool presumably."

Jordan clarified he wasn’t stating specifically who would claim the silverware, but was betting that Forest won’t be the ones to lift the trophy. He added: "Indeed I would (want them to win the title). I think it's a great club."

Nuno’s side are next in action on Sunday when they host Southampton at the City Ground (2pm kick-off). The Portuguese has always refused to get drawn on whether his team are in the title mix.

He said after Tuesday’s stalemate: “We are competing very well. I keep insisting, and this is the approach and the mentality of the squad. It is about playing, competing, improving, realising what are our strengths and our weaknesses and getting to know ourselves better. That can only make us compete in the future in a better way.

“You know what I think about the table. For now, it is not important. It is how we are going to prepare for the next game.”
