Simon Mignolet considering his Liverpool future amid 'unhealthy' goalkeeper rotation

Simon Mignolet considering his Liverpool future amid 'unhealthy' goalkeeper rotation

Simon Mignolet has admitted he is unhappy with Jurgen Klopp's decision to drop him to the bench for Liverpool's victory over Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

Mignolet has not started in goal for Liverpool since their New Year's Day win over Burnley and Jurgen Klopp has now said the number one shirt is Loris Karius' to lose.

The Belgian goalkeeper is also aware his chances of playing at the 2018 World Cup could be put in jeopardy by Jurgen Klopp's 'unhealthy' rotation policy.

"After the game against Burnley I had a conversation with the coach, among other things about his ongoing rotation. I did not find that a healthy situation for a goalkeeper," said Mignolet in an interview with Belgian media outlet Sporza.

"My place on the bench against City confirmed his words. I am not satisfied with that (being dropped) but you have to respect a decision of the trainer."

"After everything that has happened this season, I know where I stand and the situation has become clearer. I have been in such situations before and have always come out stronger," Mignolet said.

“But of course I also have to think about my own future, the only thing I can do is focus on the training and do my best. I’m 30 years old and the World Cup is coming in. This situation can not last too long, that’s clear. I cannot say more about it.”

Karius, who was partially at fault for Manchester City's first goal on Sunday afternoon, received backing from Klopp

Klopp insisted "people will always find a hair in the soup," when asked to comment on Karius' failure to keep Leroy Sane's shot out at his near post.
