Shocked Simon Murray has admitted dumped Dundee need to use their six goal Hearts’ hammering as a wake-up call.

Tony Docherty’s side had gone into this game on an unbeaten four game run, including draws with Celtic and Rangers, but were just run over by the free-scoring Jambos. Docherty pulled his players in yesterday to go through their video nasty and Murray knows he and his squad need to take their medicine, learn from it and react.

"We are obviously massively disappointed,” the striker stated. "We've been on a good bit of form, some good team performances and obviously against Hearts it was the opposite of that. So maybe a big wake up call for all of us and something we’ll have to look at. We were coming into the game in good form and showed good character in big games against the top teams in the league.

“So obviously, we never saw it coming. So we just need to look at the game and see where it went wrong.”

The self-confessed Dundee fan admitted that the home dressing room was a solemn place and right after the game, probably, wasn’t the time for digging each other out. He stated: "We’ve just had probably, well, definitely the worst performance of the season and right after the game, obviously it's raw. Sometimes it's best just to go away and have a think and then come back and we can speak about it when maybe emotions aren't as high.”

Murray accepts it was a very bad day at the office but one that he knows his team will come back stronger from it. He expects a reaction when they go into Scottish Cup action against Dundee this weekend. "We’ve shown the character that we've shown in the last few games,” Murray insisted.

“It shows that there's still a lot of work to be done on that, but at the end of the day, we just need to rub ourselves down and go again. It was a bad day but we're professionals, we'll look at it and we'll dust ourselves down and go again.

"We've all got character. You don't get to this level because you don't just get here by just turning up, you know what I mean?

“So, there's characters in there, we've shown that already and we just need to make sure that's brought this week. i’m sure that's what we'll do.”

Dundee went 2-0 down in the first half and Tony Docherty tried to change things to chase the game and it went the other way. Murray accepted that things went south from there for him and the team. "At 2-0 the next goal in the game was massively crucial," Murray added Obviously, Seb Palmer Houlden came on and we tried to go a wee bit more on the front foot, but they got the third goal and it just capitulated from there.”
